C.H. Briggs and SCAD Challenge Students to Create Solution-Oriented Designs Integrating Corian®

READING, PA, July 15, 2011 - C.H. Briggs partnered with the Savannah College of Art and Design's furniture design department to challenge students to think beyond what's expected to create unconventional, solution-oriented designs while integrating Corian®. Bench Rack, a Corian® based bicycle storage and seating hybrid created by SCAD M.F.A. furniture design student Matt Gray, was recently unveiled at NeoCon in Chicago, IL along with other student designs.

"Our course collaboration with SCAD's Furniture design department has resulted in boundary-pushing, innovative and inspiring designs that continue to demonstrate the unlimited possibilities of DuPont™ Corian®," said Luis Arias, chief marketing officer, C.H. Briggs. "The partnership between C.H. Briggs and SCAD is one that fosters a connection with students who represent the future of the design community."

Through design, Gray wanted to provide convenience, comfort, and safety to today's commuter and used Corian® as a vehicle to redefine the public transportation experience.

Herbert Brito, dean of SCAD's School of Building Arts said, "We are excited about the collaboration between the SCAD furniture design department and C. H. Briggs. Through their research and design innovation, the students were able to take an existing material to new heights. At SCAD, the opportunity to work with a company such as C. H. Briggs greatly complements the existing arts-enriched curriculum in furniture design and provides a unique opportunity to the students as they follow their creations through sketches, digital renderings, scale models, and prototypes."

Gray's multi-use Bench Rack, which was fabricated by Georgia-based company Surfacing Solutions, received mention among Inhabitat's Best in Green Design at NeoCon 2011 for it's compliance with U.S. Green Building Council's standards for operations and maintenance.
