Another inspirational application is showcased in the DuPont™ Corian® Design Studio located in Philadelphia's Marketplace Design Center. Where form meets function, we created and printed a reproduction of the 21 by 17-foot freeform Corian® conference table to serve as entryway hardware for both the studio and conference room doors.
Metals & Finishes
Metal pieces are printed in a stainless steel/bronze alloy. The finish options reflect current finish trends in the market including Old World Bronze, Damascus Steel, Medieval Pewter, Dark Knight, High Polish, Nickel Plate and Gold Plate. A final protective clear coat finish is applied for extra durability (not available on nickel or gold plated pieces).
Technology
Using CAD data, a printer dispenses microscopic droplets of a binder into micro-thin layers of powdered metal. Layer after layer of powdered metal and binder are repeatedly printed until the piece is formed. To see a video of how this technology works, click here.
